 We blend musical influences from Western, Middle Eastern, African, and other musical traditions, mixing modern and traditional instruments. The resulting blend is especially suited for dancers, particularly those who follow one of the many variants derived from Middle Eastern dancing. We appear most often with the Al Yanna dancers, but also perform as a musical group without dancers. |

Our name comes from our music. DorianDorian mode is a classical mode that also happens to be the scale used in some West African music, American blues, and many other styles of music. HijazHijaz is an Arabic maqam (or mode) that has also spread throughout the world, influencing Turkish and Balkan music and even serving as the centerpeice of Dick Dale's American Surf Guitar classic "Miserlou."  |
